Meet the team

As a staff team, we believe we can meet your child’s needs more effectively if we work together. We value your input as your child’s primary carer and as an expert on your child. We rely on your partnership, so together we can provide your child with the highest quality education and care. This will make their time at school happy and enjoyable.
Every morning, staff are available at the entrances into school for you to pass on quick messages or ask questions. If you need a more private moment, or need to speak to your child’s key person at length, you are very welcome to make an appointment.
General Information
School times
There are two Nursery classes in Beacon Primary School, a morning class and an afternoon class, each lasting 3 hours.
Morning sessions start at 8.40am until 11.40am
Afternoon sessions start at 12.25 until 3.25pm
Absences
If your child is absent please ring the school office in the morning to let us know the reason.
The school telephone number is 01922 710874.
Milk
Your child is entitled free milk up to the age of 5. Your child will receive this every day. To receive milk at school you need to register with the ‘Cool milk’ scheme either online at www.coolmilk.com or by post. If your child does not like milk or is allergic to milk please let the Nursery teacher know and we can provide a drink of water.
We encourage healthy eating and ensure your child is given a daily choice of fruit free of charge.
Going to the Toilet
Most children, when they come to Nursery, should be able to go the toilet by themselves. If necessary, a member of staff will reassure your child and help them to wash their hands. In case of an accident, parents are asked to provide a spare pair of pants and trousers, which can be kept in a bag on your child’s peg.
PE Kit
Your child will be doing PE once a week. Please could you ensure that your child has a pair of pumps in a labelled draw string bag. Your child will be given a Beacon t-shirt in their house colour to wear for P.E.
Clothing and Weather
Nursery is about active learning and this involves a range of activities both inside and out. Please ensure that your child wears suitable clothes for the various types of play they will be enjoying. We provide aprons to protect clothing but sometimes accidents happen and clothes may get paint or mud on them.
We value outdoor play experiences and therefore use our outdoor area in all weather. Please can you ensure your child is dressed appropriately for all weathers. Everyday your child needs to come to school in a waterproof coat, which you don’t mind getting messy as we spend lots of time outside.
During winter please try to provide gloves, scarf, hat and a suitable coat.
In summer please try to provide your child with appropriate clothing and a sun hat. As your child will be climbing and running no open toe sandals are allowed in nursery. We ask parents to take responsibility for applying a sun screen to all exposed areas of children’s skin before nursery.
Beacon Bear
Each week a child in morning and afternoon Nursery will get to take Beacon bear home for the weekend. The Nursery teacher will choose a ‘superstar’ of the week to take the bear home to look after. The bear will come home in a bag with a few accessories. We ask parents to write in the diary what the child has done that weekend with the bear and maybe stick in some photographs to share what adventures the bear has been on to share back in class with the other Nursery children.
‘Wrap around’
As part of our commitment to support our parents we are able to offer a wraparound provision. Morning and afternoon sessions are available. These places must be booked and paid for a week in advance. There is a charge of £15 a session plus £2 if your child requires a hot lunch. You can of course provide you child with a packed lunch if you prefer.
Times: Morning session 8.30am - 12.25pm
Afternoon session 11.45am - 3.30pm
How to support your child's learning at home
Parent workshops / Play and Stay sessions
Each half term we offer a session where you can come into school to support your child’s learning with a specific learning focus. You will get the opportunity to meet with the EY leader who will talk about how to support your child at home and be given a pack of ideas/ resources to use at home. You will then have time to complete some activities with your child, similar to ones we do in school.
Home Learning
Parents participating and actively being involved in early years can have a significant impact on improving children’s learning and supporting their needs. Each week a home learning project will be sent home, we encourage you to do them with your child and return the completed sheet to school.
1000 Stories Project
Every day you can borrow a book to read to your child at bedtime. Having conversations around stories daily is important to your child’s language development. We encourage you to read to your child as much as possible to develop their language and imagination.
Word of the week
Each week there will be a new word added to extend your child’s vocabulary. Encourage your child to say the word and use it in a sentence.
Parents Evening
Each term you can make an appointment to meet with your child’s class teacher to discuss your child’s learning and progress. During this meeting the teacher will talk about what your child can do and how you can support them at home with their learning.
