Maths activities

Here is a leaflet with simple Maths activities to do at home to develop your child's mathematical vocabulary and extend their learning. Please do these activities little and often and repeat them until your child masters the skills.

How can you support your child's Maths at home during their play and simple household chores?


  • Count whilst walking up and down the stairs
  • Sing number rhymes
  • Talk about size of foods during breakfast, lunch and dinner time
  • Talk about clothes and pairs when sorting the washing
  • Talk about capacity when having a drink- is it full, half full or empty?
  • When playing with toys such as Lego or wooden blocks try to make a repetitive pattern such as red blue red blue
  • When playing with animals talk about patterns- stripes, spots
